We are all aware of the problems of the economy over the past few years, and how this has made it very difficult finding work in some sectors. For many people who’ve lost their job or been made redundant in recent times, the task of finding a new role can be an uphill battle. We are going to have a look at a few things you can do to try and increase your chances of finding a new role in these hard times.

Getting support and training:

Training always looks good on your CV and if you’re not currently working then now is a great time to top up your skills. Using your downtime to add new skills training also reflects well on you as a demonstration that you have not just sat about, but been proactive in trying to push yourself and achieve your goals. There are numerous companies out there that offer specialist training many can be done online cheaply and easily and offer recognised qualifications.

It is important that you have set yourself realistic goals. It may not be possible for you to find your perfect job straightaway. You may need to have a short-term plan, which aims to get you back into the workplace in the relevant niche and from here you need to develop yourself with a view to being able to take that further steps to the place you would like to eventually get to. If you just hold out for that perfect job then it could be a long time coming.

Developing a plan:

It is very easy to spend your time going round in circles so great idea is to make yourself a plan outlining your day. The amounts time you’re going to spend and what you’re looking to achieve. This may involve allocating a self-assessment mounts time for using websites to search for going to local job centre or maybe forgetting local newspapers and working your way through those the key thing here is that you have some direction rather than just sitting wondering what to do next.

Widening your target jobs:

With the jobs market being difficult still, there are many people competing first small number of jobs. For this reason, it makes sense to may be broaden the type of job or role that you’re looking for. If for example you were looking for specific rail jobs, it may be worth you looking generally for jobs within the travel industry in the first instance rather than pinning all your hopes on one particular sector. Once you have managed to get yourself back into work, you’re far better positioned to then look for further opportunities as they arise.

Opportunities outside of work:

We all know that being out of work can leave us feeling slightly low and quite often with a lot of spare time on our hands. Sometimes a good idea is to put some of your spare time to good use and consider doing some kind of charity work or something that may benefit others. Other then looking good on your CV and demonstrating your positive outlook towards not currently being in work, It also gives you the opportunity to help others.
